About Ministry of Communication and Information Technology

The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology abbreviated MCIT is a ministry in the Indonesian Working Cabinet 2014-2015 in charge of communication and informatics affairs. Mr. Rudiantara was assigned as the Minister since 27 October 2014. He replace his predecessor Mr Tifatul Sembiring who inaugurated The Indonesia 2012 World Stamp Exhibition and Championship held in Jakarta.
MCIT set up its visions and missions according to the policy which is known as “Nawacita” (Nine prority programs) set out by the Indonesian Presiden, Mr. Joko Widodo.
Missions :
  1. Realizing national security that can protect Indonesian soverignity, and realize self-sustained economy by way of securing maritime resources, and realizing the reflection of the Indonesian personality as an archipelagic nation.
  2. Realizing modern, sustainable and democratic society who hold up  the law.
  3. Realizing independent and active foreign policy and strengthen Indonesian identity as a maritime nation.
  4. Realizing high quality of Indonesian people, modern, and a developed and prosporous nation.
  5. Realizing Indonesian competitiveness.
  6. Realizing Indonesia’s independence as a maritime nation, modern, and strong based on national interest.
  7. Realizing a cultural society.
  8. Setting up priority policies 2015-2019 in the development of communication and informatic affairs to support the realization of sovereignity of food, energy sufficiency, maritime and marine resources management, infrastructure development, accelerating of the development of the border areas, promotion of tourism and industrial sectors based on the advantages of human resources and capabilities in science and technology.
  9. Setting out a five year strategic plan 2015-2019 focusing on the development of telecommunication, internet policy, and the digitalization of television broadcast.
The strategic objectives of development in the field of communication and information technology, include:
  1. Realizing the availability and improvement the quality service of communication and information technology to support sovereignity and  national development trough out the country.
  2. The availability of the national broadband access, internet, and digital broadcasting which is equitable and affordable to improve economic growth, education, social, culture, defense, and security.
  3. The implementation of good corporate governance in the field of communication and information technology which is efficient, competitive, and secured.
  4. The creation of service culture, mental revolution, bureaucratic reforms, and good corporate governance of Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.
Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has a task to assist the President of the Republic of Indonesia in conducting government affairs in the field of communication and information technology. Where as the functions of the MCIT are as as follows:
  1. Formulating and determining policies in the management of resource and postal and informatics equipment, post and informatics operation, the management of informatics application, management of information and public communication.
  2. Implementing policies in the management of resource and postal and informatics equipment, post and informatics operation, the management of informatics application, management of information and public communication.
  3. Implementing technical guidance and supervision over the implementation of the management of resource and post and informatics equipment, post and informatics operation, the management of informatics application, management of information and public communication.
  4. Implementing research and development in the field of communication and information technology human resources.
  5. Implementation of substantial support to all elements of the organization within the ministry of communication and information technology.
  6. Coaching and the provision of administrative support in the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.
  7. Management of the property of the nation which is under the responsibility of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.
  8. Supervision of the execution of duties in the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.
The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and the Development of Philately.
Ministry of Communication and Information Technology is mandated by the law to issue stamp and develop philately. As part of its effort every year MCIT conduct workshop on philately in three provinces. The participants consist of middle high school or high schools students and teachers. The programs include the introduction of stamp, game play utilizing stamps as a medium for learning and discussion.
